Legs Matter have produced a consensus document which has been endorsed by The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) and The Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS).

What is the case for change?

The case for change document addresses the lack of support and advice for lower-leg and foot conditions in the UK, with the aim of ensuring best practice is implemented as standard. The document identifies issues in current practice such as inadequate diagnosis and treatment of chronic oedema /l ymphoedema, leg ulcers, peripheral arterial disease, and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The Legs Matter coalition calls for improved awareness and understanding of management, treatment, prevention, and early intervention to drive change across current working practices. The document outlines the potential for transformation, which is already driven nationally through the National Wound Care Strategy (NWCS) and NHS England The consensus panel trusts this document will help improve and transform the status quo.

The document is split into 5 sections and is really worth a read:

  • The call for visual transformation
  • The status quo is no longer acceptable: we must change it
  • We can solve the lower-limb challenge
  • Test your thinking
  • The call to action
