The AHSN (Academic Health Science Networks) Network is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Una Adderley to oversee its new National Wound Care Strategy Programme. And we couldn’t be more pleased!
With data now suggesting that approximately 2.2 million patients have a chronic wound (Guest et al 2016) and with the annual NHS cost of managing these wounds and associated comorbidities being £5.3 billion (Guest et al 2015), Una’s role couldn’t have come at a better time. And we’re delighted that one of our coalition team members will be helping shape the agenda on such an important issue.
“I’m delighted that we have recruited Una. Her knowledge, experience and drive will be critical in delivering this work successfully for national commissioners.”
Dr Mike Burrows
About Una’s role
Una’s education and research interests focus on wound care, clinical judgement and decision making with a particular interest in leg ulceration. She is currently involved in a number of wound care initiatives at both a national and international level, including leading the Legs Matter campaign. She is also a trustee of the Tissue Viability Society and a Queen’s Nurse.
Although still part of our brilliant coalition, Una will be stepping down in her role of heading up the Legs Matter campaign to focus as she joins the AHSN Network on a secondment as National Wound Care Strategy Programme Director on 1 September 2018. She will be based at the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN.
Thank you – There is so much energy and commitment from the Tissue Viability community I have every confidence that together with our colleagues in general practice, surgery, podiatry, pharmacy, education, and so on we can achieve much needed change. https://t.co/A3auK8ylVZ

About the AHSN Network’s role
The AHSN Network has been commissioned by NHS England and NHS Improvement to support the development of a wound care strategy for England. This is a vital piece of work in an area where there is still great variability in approach.
