There is very little information out there on the assessment of non white skin but there is now a great new resource about assessment of the lower limb in patients with black and brown skin called “Mind the gap”.
It is a clinical handbook of signs and symptoms in black and brown skin. The aims of the project were to highlight the lack of diversity in the information and education available.
“Mind the gap” was created in the first few months of this year and signifies the beginning in a change in medical education.
We hope to follow on from this work with updated editions which will get bigger and better every time!
Since the announcement in June 2020, “Mind the gap” has featured in the House of Lords, BMJ (British Medical Journal), Sky and ITV news and many more.
