When is Legs Matter Week in 2021?

Legs Matter Week will be taking place on Monday 11th through to Friday 15th October

What’s happening this year?

There are lots of things we can do to take charge of our leg and foot health and start feeling our best again. Building on the success of our virtual event last year, this year we’ll be hosting more online events with inspirational talks and stories from patients, leading UK healthcare professionals and our corporate partners to help you take charge of you leg and foot health.

Look out for legs or feet with these signs:

If you have difficulty bending, use a handheld mirror to look at the bottoms of your feet to ensure that you do not have small cuts, blisters, or ingrown toenails.

  • Swelling
  • Tired, throbbing and painful legs
  • Redness and skin marks from clothing
  • Cramp or pain after walking
  • Tingling sensation
  • Dry, itchy and scaly skin
  • Reddish or brown staining patches of skin between the knee and ankle, which can often in the early stages feel hot, painful and can be misdiagnosed as infection
  • Raised veins in the lower leg (varicose veins)
  • Thread veins – these small veins are present in everyone but are not normally visible until they expand and show through the skin
  • Hard skin, cracks or fissures on the heel
  • Sores and knocks that are not healing

What do Legs Matter do?

We’re working together to improve the awareness, understanding and treatment of lower leg and foot conditions at every level.

We do this by:

  • Providing a central hub of information and sign-posting
  • Providing FREE action packs with handy resources so you can get involved with sharing our message – order your pack today!
  • Having a range of materials available for you to purchase to help spread the message far and wide – more information here.
  • Encouraging healthcare professionals to be aware of the signs, seriousness and implications of lower leg and foot conditions
  • Empowering specialist lower leg and foot healthcare professionals to deliver and champion better lower leg and foot care
  • Working with commissioners and influencers to reshape lower leg and foot care within the UK

You matter

We want everyone to take charge of their own leg and foot health by:

  • Paying attention to your legs and feet
  • Going to your pharmacist or GP if things aren’t looking right
  • Demanding better or different care if your leg or foot isn’t getting better

We’re calling on healthcare professionals to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of lower leg and foot problems
  • Talk to your patients about their lower leg and foot health
  • Ask for additional training if you need it
