Overview
This session will discuss the function of the epidermis and the impact excessive exudate has on peri-wound epithelial tissues in the lower limb. The importance of prevention, intervention and early treatment will also be discussed.

Speakers
Dr Leanne Atkin

Leanne completed her Masters degree in Advanced Nursing Practice 2010 and her PhD in 2017, her research focus was the treatment and management of peripheral arterial disease. Her passions include leg ulcer management, quality agenda, peripheral arterial disease and advanced wound management. She has published over 50 articles related to lower limb ulceration, vascular diseases, wound assessment, and quality of life. Additionally, she is an active researcher running several studies as chief and principle investigator. She is currently leading the ‘Legs Matter’ campaign aiming to raise patient and public awareness of lower limb conditions and working with the National Wound Care Strategy chairing the lower limb stream of work.
Ruth Yeoell RGN, MSc

Ruth is a registered nurse who has expertise in all aspects of wound management. She has a specialised clinical and leadership background spanning over 20 years within vascular medicine. She is passionate about holistic assessment, delivery of evidence-based and effective treatments for complex lower limb conditions, empowering patients and enhancing their quality of life. She currently sits on the Leg Ulcer Forum executive committee as a commercial member.
Since joining 3M in 2016 she has been able to continue her commitment to promote evidence-based practice and enhance patient lives as part of the 3M clinical team. Specialising in both active and advanced wound care and a keen interest in Skin Protection and Wound Healing, especially in Lower Limb Conditions. She supports clinicians through bespoke scientific education programmes, evidence-based learning, audits, and publication.
Her current role is medical liaison within the medical partnership team covering the North Europe Region, allowing her to network both in the UK and Ireland and in the wider North European regions
Ruth has lectured on postgraduate courses and presented regionally, nationally, and internationally at educational events.
