What are the Legs Matter Roadshows about?
Kicking off in September 2024, we have scheduled a series of UK-wide interactive roadshows aiming to:
- Promote a consistent MDT approach in the prevention and treatment of venous disease and oedema
- Promote a universal common language and action amongst clinicians when presented with patients suffering from venous disease and oedema
- Raise the alarm on hidden harm – one of the major harms identified by NHS England was clinicians not acting appropriately when presented with patients suffering from venous disease and oedema
- Promote the message that prevention and early management of venous disease and oedema are key to improving patient outcomes and reducing suffering
- Ensure all patients have access to high quality and cost-effective care in a timely manner
The Legs Matter Roadshows are being run in partnership with Essity and supported by Huntleigh Healthcare as well as member organisations from the Legs Matter Coalition
What will you gain from attending?
- An understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of venous hypertension and oedema in the lower limb
- How to carry out a holistic lower limb assessment and recognise the urgency of care and when to refer on
- How to recognise the ‘Red Flags’ in line with the National Wound Care Strategy Programme recommendations
- How compression therapy works and the different types of compression therapy
- Increased confidence in compression therapy – ‘remove the fear’
- How to choose the appropriate compression garment (safe administration) to reduce the impact of venous hypertension
- How to measure for phlebology ready-to-wear (RtW) compression hosiery (compression bandaging will not be included in the practical)
- Development of practical skills in vascular assessment including ABPI and how to undertake an ABPI test correctly
